Yet another reason to love living in Jacksonville, Florida - The Riverside Arts Market (RAM). Or, if you aren't lucky enough to live in this wonderful River City by the Sea, RAM is another great reason to visit. The market is open every Saturday from 10:00AM - 4:00PM, April till December. We visited for a little over three hours on opening day and had a blast!
Susan and I joined an enthusiastic crowd under the Fuller Warren Bridge (I-95) on Saturday, April 4th for the grand opening of the Riverside Arts Market and we plan to make frequent visits over the coming months. In addition to the beaches (and all they have to offer), numerous great golf clubs, the Jacksonville Zoo and other fabulous attractions and events, the Riverside Arts Market should be on every visitor's list of things to do and see when in Jacksonville, Florida.
The free outdoor marketplace features an abundance of local art, fresh produce and live entertainment. The 40,000 visitors who came opening day shattered all attendance projections... I don't think that number included the many well-behaved dogs that accompanied many of the folks either. People arrived by car, bus, bicycles and boats... and, of course, many who live in the historic Riverside area just put on their walking shoes and came on foot.
Designed to provide local artists and farmers with a viable marketplace in a difficult economic times, the Riverside Arts Market included local painters, bakers, sculptors, growers, potters, herb gardeners, wood carvers, jewelers, weavers and more. We were entertained throughout the day by live bands, face painters, jugglers and other street performers including an escape artist (Houdini style). And people weren't just there for the free entertainment. We're told that many artists and other vendors sold out before noon!
